E-learning began in 1999 and was first used in a Computer Based Training (CBT) systems seminar. It combines all teaching and learning activities that are delivered electronically, such as through the internet, audio, video tapes, computers, etc. to support a successful online experience. E-learning, although a great innovation, doesn’t come without its challenges. This article explains some of the challenges both learners and developers face when it comes to E-learning.
Instructor Without Instruction.
Designing Training For A Wide Audience Demographic.
Choosing The Right Interactivity Level/Interactions.
The Lack Of Learners’ Motivation.
Learners And Their Various Activities.
1. Instructor Without Instruction.
One of the biggest challenges in e-learning is the concept of instruction without an instruction, which caused a lot of pushbacks when it first emerged. The absence of an instructor makes it challenging to access and grade the learner’s understanding of the course while ensuring they are not distracted. For certain learning styles, a live instructor may be necessary.
2. Designing Training For A Wide Audience Demographic.
Learning styles will need to be accommodated based on the number of learners. For a course to have the desired effect, a trainer would have to employ a needs analysis to checkmate all areas of the learner’s educational and career background.
3. Choosing The Right Interactivity Level/Interactions.
In eLearning, there is no one-size-fits-all formula. Therefore, designing eLearning for a large user base can feel like being pulled in several directions at once and finding the ideal level of interaction can be challenging. The level of interactivity chosen can make or break a course.
4. The Lack Of Learners’ Motivation.
A common eLearning challenge that eLearning professionals must address is learners’ lack of motivation. The problem may be due to learners not being enthusiastic about the topic or not being interested in it. Infusing role-play can help boost the learner’s motivation to the course.
5. Learners And Their Various Activities.
Learning may be impossible for some people due to their tight schedules. A primary concern for learners is that taking an eLearning course might consume a lot of time and as such mini courses have been introduced to help learner’s finish courses faster and retain important points.
Codva uses interactive elements as basic as a slide or video navigation button, click-to-reveals, audio recordings, transitions, and interactive audio and videos, virtual role-playing, and/or simulations to design courses.
